52 project// continued

I know, I know where the hell is this blanket I keep making such a big deal about? It's coming I promise!

Some of you might remember a while back that I realized I did the math wrong (big surprise) when I figured how big these granny squares needed to be. Well I did and because of that I realized I would need four more to complete the blanket. I put it out there to see if anyone might want to submit some for a mini competition and the ones I would choose would get a gift certificate to manzanita.

Well, to say the lease this year has been a pretty trying one for many reasons and unforunately there were a lot of plans I had that just didn't happen. That's ok right? Well I decided I would dedicate the last 4 squares to the 4 people that are the most supportive to me and manzanita. My mother, sister, husband, and best friend. I had them all choose their own colors and I plan on putting them on the four corners of the blanket. Here they are!

Dear Mom,

Thanks for being such a "weird" and beautiful woman. You exposed me to so much diversity, art, and creativity from the day I was born. Any talent I might possess or drive I have to express that talent I truly owe to you. So of course it is only natural that you be included in this project. These colors are completely yours. I love you.

Dear Alysia,

What can I say to you, I couldn't even think about doing half the projects I do with your hands and eyes as my partner through it all. At first I thought that these colors you chose were sort of boring and I didn't feel like they really personified all your craziness. When I told you this, you seemed to agree but were too busy on your ipadon the couch to pick out other ones. I realized then that they were perfect because you are the queen of laziness when it comes to small tasks like these and I love you.

Dear Amelia,

My own personal cheerleader. You a constant stream of support and love and I can't believe I am so lucky to be able to get those qualities from a friend. Guurrrl I luh you! And, of course you were the only one out of the four people who got to pick their colors who chose the maximum amount. This square is crazy and beautiful, just like you:) P.S. I had to photoshop a photo of is onto an instax because you live 2000 miles away from me, I hate it! But I love you.

Dear Dustin,

Baby, this whole project was really for you. I wanted to make something that we could keep forever from our first year of marriage. I wanted something that would make me document as many moments as possible, something to force me to check in and see what I love about you and what we need to appreciate about each other. So, really you didn't need a specific square for you because all the squares are for you and for us. I love you more and more.

52 project// complete!

Well the loose ends are tucked in and the squares are ready to go! So exciting to see them piled as they are now, just waiting for me to join them together. I am taking my big test next week so I probably won't get to it until then. 

 I love granny squares, I will never forget how I felt after I made my first one. They are so full of potential and so easy to connect together in a graceful way, even when the colors look like they should never be together. Do you have a favorite square here? I love the poog squares, I made those on their birthday weeks. I also really like #31, I made that one in memory of all the fires that happened here in colorado this year. But, if I had to choose a favorite I guess it would be #19. I just love the colors!

I wish life was a little less chaotic this new year, I would have loved to have started a new 52 week project. At this point I couldn't add one more anything to my schedule, or I might pop!

52 week project update

I wanted to give you all an update on my 52 week project. On new years eve instead of going out and celebrating like most people, I did my own style of celebrating in at home with some yarn, wine, and a crochet hook. I finished my last granny square that night to complete all 52 all of them!

I started the year by doing a weekly post about each granny square. At #32 I stopped doing weekly posts for a couple of reasons. One, I felt like the posts were getting a bit boring for readers and Two, because I got really busy and it was already challenging enough to crochet a large granny square each week, never mind photographing it as well.

So, now I have to tie in some loose ends, photograph the remaining squares and then get to joining them! Can't wait to see it all done! I have been asked quite a bit how I join granny square. I have two methods of joining and I plan on sharing them soon!

52 project// granny square #31

Hi all! Here is #31, I thought I would make one in the colors of fire as a reminder of all the fires that have been happening here in Colorado this summer.

Tid Bit: Yesterday Dustin and I made an unexpected trip to Wyoming. My brother in law and his girlfriend welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. It was a long and crazy day but we feel pretty blessed to have been some of the first people that the little one got to see. I even got to hold her for a while and I haven't held a new born baby in far too long. If I didn't have baby fever before, watch out, because it is burning up in here now. I can't wait to be pregnant<3

52 project// CALL FOR ALL GRANNY SQUARE MAKERS!

Hello sweet people. So today I am playing catch up on my 52 week project. Most of these have been lying in my office waiting to be photographed for the last few weeks, but here they are #'s 25-30!

So today I laid all the grannies out on my bed to see if I could start the joining process. I realized while I was doing this that to cover our whole bed I am actually going to need 56 granny squares, not 52. I could have sworn I had done the measurements right but alas, I was wrong. You can see the progress here.

No worries though! I had this idea that perhaps some of you could help me with? This is a call for all granny square makers! I thought it might be fun to have some of you send me your own granny squares and I can choose my favorite four in December. What do you think? If you don't know how to crochet a granny square here is my tutorial I shared a while back.

52 project// granny square #23 & 24

Here is #23 and #24 of the 52 week project. Today I went with colors that sort of remind me of fathers day and last week I went with mint chocolate chip theme.

Tidbit: Today I started a ritual. I will be posting a photo of myself on instagram/twitter wearing no makeup and using no filter. I love getting dolled up for work, a photoshoot, or going out. But, its easy to start to rely on it. I thought it would be good to remind myself what I look like and I thought it would be good to show all of you too!

52 project// granny square #22

Meet #22 of my 52 week project. This blanket is really starting to come together and I cannot believe there have already been 22 weeks this year!

Tidbit: When I was little I was known for cutting my bangs, myself! My mom would find me in corners or under tables with big scissors just chopping off my hair. There are many school photos of me with crazy crooked bangs because of this.

I still sometimes have a hard time staying away from the scissors. It relieves stress for me to give myself a little bang trim and take a long shower. I have gotten better at it since I have been older but I can still slip up:/

52 project// granny square #18, 19, and #20

It seems I have gotten a bit behind in posting for my 52 week project. Here is #18, #19, and #20!

Tidbit: My sister Pamela has been here all week, visiting from NC. It has been really nice to be able to meet up with her on my lunch break, go shopping with her, and talk all night, sister/sister stuff<3

Well since my whole family is together, which is pretty rare. We are planning a family portrait shoot this afternoon. My family is notorious for taking the most god awful photos. There are just way too many of us for one of us not to be making a ridiculous face. On top of that my mother and I always get the giggles and make each other laugh so hard that we cant breath, so her and I inevitably end up looking like clowns. Wish us luck!
